Our Annual Matching Challenge Has Begun!

Ten years ago, we lost Summer. It’s hard for me to believe that a decade has passed, because my memory of her is still so vivid.  When she died, the emotional pain was intense. I remember thinking that, certainly, after one year, things will get easier. Or maybe after five years. Surely, ten. Yet, I’ve learned that when it comes to losing a child, time doesn’t really fix things — not like it does other kinds of pain. Yes, you get used to it, but it’s always there. That’s because our children are part of us. However, with the pain, I also feel enormous gratitude for the impact she has had on so many lives, including mine.

In honor of Summer and all she accomplished in her short life, last week we launched our end-of-year fundraiser. I know she would have been proud of the way we all band together during a sad time like this, turning it into something positive and uplifting. Kind of like what she did with her cancer and Team Summer.

An amazing group of Team Summer supporters – listed at the bottom of this email! – have put together a Challenge Fund that will match your tax-deductible* contributions – dollar for dollar – up to $20,000! If you donate $50, Team Summer will get $100; if you donate $100, Team Summer will get $200. Yes, I know this is a big goal, but I’m full of hope that you all will help us find a way to reach it!

Team Summer is GROWING! Last year at this time, Team Summer kids had given gifts in five different states. One year later, that number is 23! That’s right, Team Summer kids have given gifts in almost half the states in this country! Look at all that purple!
