Almost five years ago, Dre was at at a birthday party with a trampoline to jump on when he suddenly got very ill. Even though he did not fall or hit his head, doctors suspected a concussion. For eight weeks, his symptoms – vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, writing backwards, blurry vision – continued until an MRI identified the cause: a brain tumor. It was cancer.
Dre’s life since then has been really hard. He’s had two brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, not to mention a lot of time in the hospital. Not fun! So Team Summer kid Nick, who is battling leukemia, jumped in to help. He decided that whatever Dre’s Team Summer gift would be, it had to be FUN!
Dre is a HUGE Atlanta Falcons fan, so Nick got him tickets to a game at Mercedes Benz Stadium! AND Nick got Dre the jersey of his very favorite player, Grady Jarrett, to wear to the game!
We won’t talk about the final score, but hey, Dre had a great time anyway! He got to meet Grady’s mom…
..and he actually got a big hug from number 97 himself!
Way to go, Nick! Nobody was thinking about cancer that day. And you did it! Dre had FUN!
